Most of the time, we can blame them and are certain that those that are incarcerated are the worst members of our society. When we consider detainees, it is obvious that their major objective is to flee whenever they get the chance, and that no one will pass up such a chance.
The story that follows, however, demonstrates the exact opposite.
A massive truck and a bus carrying 50 prisoners collided on a lonely Arizona road. You’d think that now would be the ideal time for them to flee, but they haven’t given it a second thought. The detainees who were involved in the accident did as follows: rather than running away as soon as possible, they stayed and started aiding the injured. There were many victims.
Following the event, the bus driver and more than 20 inmates suffered serious injuries; two of them required hospital transport for medical care.
I started to believe that there are still individuals in the truest sense after hearing this story. It’s crucial to realize that, despite the act for which he is imprisoned, his imprisonment does not dehumanize him; he is still a person with feelings and a capacity for compassion.
