Toby Keith has some wonderful news for his followers.
The 61-year-old singer of “Should’ve Been a Cowboy” disclosed that he was diagnosed with stomach cancer a year ago and voiced optimism for a prompt comeback to touring.
Prior to his Toby Keith & Friends Golf Tournament on June 2, the country singer said, “I’m feeling pretty good,” during a gala. “Everything is generally going in a very positive direction.”
Keith continued, “You never know with cancer, so you have to be prepared.”
The famous person stated he intends to start touring again by the end of the year if he has the stamina for a long presentation.
He told the publication, “I’ve got more wind.” And just to test whether I can get through two hours, I’m thinking about setting up shop with the band and playing somewhere for two or three days.
If he is able to, Keith said he will be “out on the road this fall.”
Then we’ll get back to work, he said. To obtain a brief reprieve from this chemo, all I have to do is see if I can work two or three nights in a row.
The vocalist of “Beer for My Horses” proclaimed, “I’m ready.” Life is like that.
According to The Oklahoman, Keith, who is currently undergoing chemotherapy for stomach cancer, stated that in addition to feeling “better,” his blood tests have improved and his tumor has shrunk by around a third.
The country artist said, “I’m about another eight weeks from my last scan.” In light of this, “I anticipate that tumor to be even less the next time I look for it, and I’ve only found one so far.”
The Unleashed performer also mentioned that he is currently seeing a nutritionist and receiving immunotherapy.
Keith has only twice updated the public on his health since going public with his diagnosis. In an interview with CMT Hot 20 Countdown in December of last year, the singer of “Red Solo Cup” expressed a similar desire to embark on a tour as soon as possible.
I need a little bit of time to just rest up and heal up,” he said in the interview.
“Having to go through all that is pretty crippling, but as long as everything keeps going as planned, then we’ll look at something positive in the future,” Keith concluded.
Keith first announced his October 2021 stomach cancer diagnosis in a post on Instagram in late June. “I’ve spent the last six months getting chemotherapy, radiation, and surgery,” he wrote in the post. So far, it’s been good. I need some time to breathe, recover, and rest.
He stated, “I am looking forward to spending time with my family. However, I’ll undoubtedly run into the fans soon. I’m excited. -T.”
Later that week, the country artist expressed gratitude to his fans for their response to the news. He expressed his appreciation for everyone’s love and support in a message on Instagram. “I have the best fans in the world. T.”
