Big news, Dolly Parton fans. The Queen of Country eventually uttered what many of us had expected to hear. She acknowledged that, at 76, she’s definitely done with live performances.
But she won’t necessarily stop giving performances. “I don’t believe I’ll ever go on tour again, but I am certain that I will periodically put on odd shows here and there. Perform a few shows perhaps at a festival or during a long weekend. However, I don’t currently have any plans to go on a full-fledged tour, she told Pollstar.
It takes a lot of time and effort, and I’ve been doing that all my life. She stated, “I prefer to spend more time at home with my husband.” “We’re getting older; I don’t want to be gone for four or five weeks at a time. Something could happen. I wouldn’t be happy about it if someone needed me while I was gone. If I were to terminate a tour early because I had to go home to help someone, I would feel horrible about leaving the fans behind.
Since it’s just a reasonable response to growing older as a cultural icon, we can’t hold it against her. She may be spending less time on the road, but she is certainly staying active. Her schedule is already jam-packed with more projects, including her own line of dog toys, new music, films, and music videos.
Unquestionably, her most prominent recent project is her CD Run, Rose, Run, which she co-wrote with James Patterson and was intended to be a companion to their book of the same name. As soon as the book hit the bestseller list, a movie deal was in the works. And happily, for us, Parton will join the cast of Run, Rose, Run and make a comeback on the big screen, according to Deadline. She is also one of the film’s co-producers.
(The protagonist of the story is Annie Lee, a young musician who aspires to “make it” in country music while also trying to get away from a traumatic background. Her journey is affected by everyone she meets along the road, but Ruthanna especially takes her under her wing.)
Parton has her next project planned, even once the film is finished. She’s working on a rock record. (!!!) When she learned that she had been selected for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, she declared that there was “no better time to do it.” Hopefully, when I level off from finishing the movie, I’ll have a really great album. I can’t wait to do it.
We are, of course, as well.
