Several of the portions from the Disney+ documentary The Sum Of It All, which follows musician Ed Sheeran as he creates his fifth album, Subtracts, and offers a peek into his personal life, have been made available to the public.
As he posted the footage to Instagram, Sheeran made a note about the project’s development and recognized that the final product deviates greatly from his original vision. He argues that despite the documentary being intended to document his rise to fame, it ended up accompanying him on a personal journey.
The four-part documentary will also cover Sheeran’s current challenges, his wife’s tumor diagnosis, and Jamal Edwards passing, who was both his mentor and close friend.
At the age of 31, Edwards, who founded SBTV and was awarded an MBE for his contributions to the music industry, passed suddenly on February 20, 2022. Because of how important Edwards was to Sheeran’s career, the television program shows the singer sobbing uncontrollably in the backseat after learning of the untimely passing of his close friend.

When his wife Seaborn was diagnosed with a tumor while she was carrying their second child, Sheeran also suffered another loss. They were afflicted with “fear, depression, and anxiety” because the expecting mother couldn’t be treated until after she gave birth.
“A series of events affected my life, my mental health, and ultimately how I felt about art and music at the start of 2022. I write songs as therapy. The Shape of You singer further stated, “Music helps me make sense of my feelings,” when announcing his new album earlier this month.
Eyes Closed is a piece of Sheeran’s recent music.
This song is about losing someone and feeling as though every time you go out, all you can think about is them and the things you did together.
By sort of detaching yourself from reality, you can sometimes soften the pain of loss, but other things just pull you back into it.

Jamal liked blue, but that’s all I feel right now. I’m trying to get through it by dancing and closing my eyes since, according to music, healing is possible.
The Sum of It All is divided into four sections: “Love,” “Loss,” “Balance,” and “Life.”
