Although Al Roker returned to the Today Show at the beginning of the year after missing a week due to a hospital stay, he must continue to be in excellent condition to do so.
At the end of the previous year, the 68-year-old weatherman missed more than a month of work because of blood clots in his lungs and subsequent surgery.
He continued to be upfront and honest about his health and gave them a new update on a separate health issue since then.
Al notified his followers on Tuesday that due to further surgery, he would need more time off from the Today Show, where he has spent more than 20 years working.

In a message on Instagram, the well-liked meteorologist announced that he would shortly have knee replacement surgery, allowing him to continue his usual walking routine.
When his health started to decline in late 2022, Al was an avid walker, and his Instagram followers could look forward to seeing a video update from him each day as he chatted with the camera while he accomplished his daily 10,000 steps.

He announced on social media that he was returning to his former habits and had finally surpassed his usual 10k steps as the day of his knee surgery came closer.
He posted a picture of his Apple watch with, “Yesterday was the #bestdayyet when it comes to my steps on this #bumknee before my #kneereplacementsurgery in late April,” and added, “Thanks to my #starttoday #family for the support!”
He was advised to take it easy, honey, by his 28-year-old wife Deborah Roberts, who has given her husband the greatest care possible both during and after his health troubles.
In the article’s comments section, readers applauded Al for his commitment, writing: “You are an inspiration!! Al, you rock. and “Al, you serve as an example for many of us! You make us all happy every day, my friend!” “You are an inspiration, Al Roker,” said another admirer.
