Hunter is Going Down!

Even though the summer may be coming to a close, September is already heating up again as more details about Hunter Biden come to light, this time from David C. Weiss, the Special Counsel in his case. According to a court document from Mr. Weiss’ office, Hunter Biden will be charged by the end of September.

According to the Speedy Trial Act, “Any information or indictment charging an individual with the commission of an offense shall be filed within thirty days from the date on which such individual was arrested or served with a summons in connection with such charges.” This document refers to the Speedy Trial Act and the firearms case involving Hunter.

The Government must, at the very least, receive an indictment from a grand jury by Friday, September 29, 2023, in accordance with the Speedy Trial Act. According to a court filing by the special counsel’s office, the Government intends to ask for the return of an indictment in this case before that time.

As a backdrop, Hunter may be subject to harsh legal consequences for both failing to pay his taxes and for lying on a form used to obtain a rifle. Despite smoking crack at the time he bought the handgun in October 2018, Hunter acknowledged on the form that he did not use illicit narcotics.

The form’s primary objective of prevent various anti-social groups, such as heavy drug addicts, from obtaining firearms, which is a serious offense. In reality, lying about the documentation used to purchase a weapon is a criminal with a maximum ten-year prison term.

Despite this, Weiss had originally planned to slap Hunter in the wrist, as many would put it. According to the deal, Hunter might have avoided prosecution provided he met specific standards over the course of 24 months. However, everything went tragically wrong when the case’s assigned judge threw out the plea deal, and the parties were forced to start over.

After the soft-on-Hunter plea deal collapsed, the situation got so bad that Weiss was named the Special Counsel for the case by Attorney General Merrick Garland, which many saw as a sign that the Department of Justice was pursuing yet another sham resolution. But it appears like Hunter will at least face charges today.

Hunter Biden’s legal representative, Abbe Lowell, released a statement about the situation in which she said that the prior agreement “prevents any additional charges from being filed against Mr. Biden, who has been abiding by the conditions of release under that agreement for the last several weeks, including regular visits by the probation office.” We anticipate that the thorough, five-year inquiry of Mr. Biden will come to a just decision, Lowell said, “based on the evidence and the law, not outside political pressure.”

It’s unclear if Hunter will face criminal charges in connection with the two tax disputes or if the prosecution will focus solely on the gun registration issue.
