I THOUGHT MY HUSBAND WAS CHEATING ON ME WITH OUR NEW NEIGHBOR, BUT THINGS TOOK A TURN WHEN I SAW HER SON

Ever since our new neighbor moved in, my husband started disappearing.

At first, he was just helping her with boxes, but then he began spending every day with her! Don’t get me wrong… I THOUGHT HE WAS CHEATING ON ME!

I tried to convince myself otherwise. He wouldn’t cheat on me, right? Not David. He’s just kind, that’s all. He would always say, “She’s a single mom; she just needs some support. It’s nothing.”

I blindly believed him until the day I caught them red-handed on her porch. THEY WERE CLOSE, WAY TOO CLOSE… LIKE NEWLYWEDS! Suddenly, all the little doubts I had pushed away came crashing down louder than ever. I was right.

I didn’t sleep all night, knowing I had to do something. So, the next morning, determined, I grabbed a box of cookies and headed to her house. “Hello, Lauren,” I said, hoping to see this snake get what she deserved. But suddenly, a little boy ran up to me. And OH MY GOD, the ground fell out from under me… he was the exact copy of my husband.

couldn’t breathe.

The little boy—her son—stood there, clutching the edge of her dress, staring up at me with David’s exact blue eyes.

Same unruly brown hair. Same dimpled chin.

My heart stopped.

Lauren’s smile faltered. She glanced at my expression, then at her son, and her face went pale.

I turned slowly, my gaze locking onto hers. My hands were shaking so badly that the cookie box nearly slipped from my grasp.

“What… is this?” My voice came out barely above a whisper.

Lauren took a deep breath, then knelt beside her son, running a hand through his hair.

“This is Adam,” she said quietly. “He’s six.”

Six.

Six years old.

I did the math instantly.

Six years ago… David and I were married.

I staggered back. “No. No, this isn’t—” I turned, storming back to my house.

Lauren called after me, “Please, let me explain!”

But I was already throwing the door open. David was in the kitchen, sipping his coffee like everything was normal.

I slammed the door behind me, the sound echoing through the house.

His head snapped up. “Whoa, what’s wrong?”

I couldn’t even speak.

I just stared at him, my entire body shaking.

Then I finally choked out the words:

“How long were you going to keep your SON a secret from me?”

David froze.

His coffee cup trembled in his hands. “W-what?”

laughed bitterly. “Don’t play dumb. He’s a copy of you. Don’t you dare stand there and lie to me.”

He put the cup down, his face draining of color.

I clenched my fists. “Were you EVER going to tell me? Or were you just waiting until she moved in next door to slip back into her life?”

David’s lips parted, but no words came out.

His silence was all the answer I needed.

Tears burned behind my eyes, but I refused to let them fall. “How long, David? HOW LONG HAVE YOU BEEN HIDING THIS?”

He swallowed hard. “I… I didn’t know.”

staggered back. “What?”

He ran a hand through his hair, his face tormented.

“I didn’t know about him. I swear, I didn’t. Lauren and I had… a brief thing, before we got serious. She never told me she was pregnant.”

I felt like the ground was crumbling beneath me.

“So what now?” I whispered. “Are you going to leave me for them?”

He took a step forward. “No! I love you! I just—I just want to be in his life.”

I exhaled shakily. My mind was spinning.

The betrayal. The lies. The fact that his past had just moved in next door.

I looked at him, my heart breaking.

“David…” My voice was calm. Too calm.

He swallowed. “Yeah?”

I lifted my chin.

“Pack your bags.”

His face fell. “What?”

I stepped back. “You have a son to take care of now. And I? I have a life to rebuild—without you.”

Because some betrayals?

Can never be undone.
