Who has seen “The Partridge Family” in this room? If you were a fan, Susan Dey’s depiction of Laurie Partridge’s beauty charmed you without a doubt.
When Susan was offered the role in the ABC series, which aired for four years from 1970 to 1974, she had no prior acting experience, but it was the perfect choice to cast her because of her exceptional talent and ease in front of the camera.
The singing family traveled from event to venue on a modified psychedelic school bus, entertaining large crowds. When it was completed in the US, it was also a huge hit there, and the cast gained considerable notoriety.
David Cassidy, a coworker of Susan’s who played Keith in the show, quickly captivated the hearts of many young girls. One of the women that was fixated on him was Susan. She’d had a crush on him for a while, but they didn’t start dating until the program was over.
They were close friends before David penned C’mon, Get Happy: Fear and Loathing on the Partridge Family Bus, in which he extensively addressed his connection with Susan, but their romance didn’t survive for very long. He claimed that one of the reasons they split up was because she was too innocent for him.
That infuriated Susan. She vowed to herself years later that she would never speak to him again, so she chose not to go to the cast reunion.
Since her role in “The Partridge Family,” Susan has been in a number of movies and TV shows. Another one of her publications is the book Susan Dey’s Secrets on Boys, Beauty, and Popularity.
She was nominated for six Golden Globes and three Emmys before winning the Best Actress Golden Globe for her portrayal of Grace Van Owen in “LA Law.”
Although she had the chance to play Laurie in “The Partridge Family,” Olivia Newton-John, who played Sandy in the movie Grease, reportedly received advice from her managers not to. According to Worldation.com, Susan turned down the role of Sandy in Grease.
Susan lives peacefully in New York with her husband and their family, where she was raised. She may not be the focus of attention anymore, but she will always be regarded as someone who made our youth special. Nobody ever forgets “The Partridge Family,” no matter how long it has been.
