Jennifer Grey experienced “invisibility” after having face surgery as a result of the “nose job from hell” that made her “nameless.”
The career chances of Jennifer Grey, who played “Baby” in the iconic movie Dirty Dancing, were anticipated to significantly improve.
But it wasn’t intended to be that way. Instead, a horrific incident dramatically altered everything and gave her the will to quit the film industry for good.
Jennifer Grey has lately opened up about the horrible period in her life that left her profoundly scarred after remaining quiet for many years.
The cast and crew of Dirty Dancing were shocked to learn what they had done when the movie premiered in theaters in August 1987.
Patrick Swayze, who played the male lead, quickly found success. Before starring in movies like Ghost and Donnie Darko, he first rose to fame as a sex icon and teenage idol.
But, his co-star Jennifer Grey wasn’t in a good place when the movie first came out, and she swiftly disappeared entirely. In the midst of the revelry, Jennifer Grey entered and immediately fled.
In addition, it had been a very, very long time since the actress had been seen in the media.
She has recently, however, spoken candidly in an interview about the incident that changed her life.
Let’s first examine Jennifer Grey’s life before the tragic event that occurred in the summer of 1987.
When Jennifer Gray was a young child, she signed up for dance lessons. She was born in New York in 1960; her father may have impacted her choice to work in the entertainment industry. Her father, Joel Gray, was a photographer, actor, dancer, and vocalist.
As a Dalton School student, Jennifer focused on choreography and performance. She began looking for performing gigs and enrolled concurrently in the Neighborhood Playhouse School of the Drama after earning her degree in 1978. Her life was both, even though it wasn’t a passionate dance on flowers. Jennifer was made to work as a waitress to pay the bills.
She nevertheless managed to land a few TV ad contracts despite this, including one for Dr. Pepper. In the 1984 film “Reckless,” she made her acting debut. A few years later, she received a major break when she was cast as Frances “Baby” Houseman in the film “Dirty Dancing.”
Author Eleanor Bergstein’s early life had a big impact on the plot of this well-liked film. Jennifer gained notoriety overnight and received a Golden Globe nomination for Best Actress.
Regrettably, she was never able to enjoy the benefits of her enormous success.
Just before the film’s August 1987 debut, Grey and Matthew Broderick were residing in Ireland.
Due to Broderick driving on the wrong side of the road and colliding with another vehicle, the two were involved in a fatal car accident. A mother and her daughter were in the second car, and they both passed away instantaneously.
The charge of dangerous driving against Broderick was ultimately amended to careless driving. Even though Jennifer Grey only suffered minor physical wounds like bruises, her psychological scars never fully healed.
Dirty Dancing made its appearance a short while afterward. Grey was unable to enjoy the movie, despite how well-liked it was.
The contrast between excruciating suffering, survivor’s remorse, and being the next big thing seemed unfathomable. Grey said it was not fun being the talk of the town.
Because of the trauma the accident created, the actress will never entirely recover.
According to her, “My thinking and my wanting were never the same.
A hell’s nose operation
She struggled with “survivor’s guilt,” briefly vanished in the early 1990s, and then made a cameo in a 1995 Friends episode.
By that point, she had undergone plastic surgery, and her face was entirely different.
“I had the impression that I was secretive or under witness protection. The worst nose job imaginable. I’ll always be known as the anonymous former renowned actress with the nose job.
After that, Jennifer’s Hollywood career remained sporadic.
By 2010, Jennifer had successfully re-entered the mainstream media. After winning the Televised show “Dancing with the Stars,” she was once again a devoted fan favorite. She contended that it holds particular meaning for her.
“I feel like I’ve starved myself out of fear of what people will think of me,” the famous person declared. It’s like enjoying a delicious meal after 23 years of dieting.
Grey will once again be in the spotlight in 2018. She will play the lead in the upcoming comedy “Red Oaks” in addition to “Untogether.”
