Despite growing up in front of her audience, Jodie Foster has always kept her personal life a mystery from the general world.
She started working in movies when she was still a small child, and over the years, she was cast in a number of iconic parts. When she was just 12 years old, Martin Scorsese’s 1976 film Taxi Driver gave her her big break when she played a young prostitute in the movie.
Foster has received two Academy Awards and three Golden Globes. She received the honorary Cecil B. DeMille Award at the 70th Golden Globe Awards in 2013 for her “great contributions to the world of entertainment.”
In addition to being a well-known director, the Silence of the Lambs actress is a mother to two young ones.
Many wondered who Foster had her boys and there were numerous allegations spread over the years regarding her sexual orientation.
Foster hid her true self for a very long time; in fact, it took her 35 years from the time she was asked in an interview when she was 17 years old about her preference for men until she finally revealed that she was attracted to women.
During the interview, Foster was asked, “What kind of fellas do you like?” Foster was compelled to respond. She kept her cool, but by the looks on her face, many started to wonder if she was even interested in men.
She was actually scared for her future in her line of work. She had been waiting for the right time to come out, and she thought her 2013 award acceptance speech was it. As she stepped onto the stage, Foster said, “I hope you’re not disappointed that there won’t be a big coming-out speech today, because I already did my coming-out approximately a thousand years ago back in the Stone Age.
I guess I just have a sudden need to say something that I’ve never really been able to air in public, she continued, “since I’m here being all confessional.”
Foster said that she had both of her children, Kit and Charlie, with producer Sidney Bernard, with whom she dated from 1993 until 2008.
When listening to her talk about her personal life, no one in the crowd was able to keep a dry eye.
Following a year of courting, actor-turned-photography Alexandra Hedison, who had previously considered becoming a photographer but had second thoughts, wed Foster in 2014.
Hedison and Ellen DeGeneres once dated. In their relationship, which lasted from 2000 to 2004, they even talked about adopting a child before calling it quits.
Foster and Hedison don’t regularly see in public together. In reality, the two have very sometimes appeared together on the red carpet; their most recent being at the 2021 Cannes Film Festival.
Foster accepted her Golden Globe for her role in The Mauritanian while Hedison stood by her side. Foster then gave her acceptance speech via video from home. “Alex, I love my wife, thank you!” she exclaimed as she kissed her.
That Jodie Foster is now leading an honest life makes us very happy.
