The performer declared, “I’m getting too old to work in a place that isn’t healthy and enjoyable.”
We now know more about Kelly Clarkson’s reasons for relocating her talk show to New York City.
The singer, 41, discussed the future of The Kelly Clarkson Show in an interview with Nancy O’Dell on TalkShopLive on Thursday. She said that she and her children, including son Remington “Remy” Alexander, 7, and daughter River Rose, 812, needed the change for them.
“I’m glad you asked since I haven’t had many opportunities to talk about this. I communicated with my team even in January. She spoke of the show, which will premiere its fifth season this fall and was just renewed through 2025, saying, “I said, “You guys,” and I was crying because I’ve created such a great group of people.
“It’s clear that we’ve achieved a great deal, and I enjoy working with everyone since our relationships are so good. In order to let them know what was happening, I spoke with them as a result, continued Clarkson. She said, “I have to travel to the East Coast or I can’t continue the show.”
She stated, “Covid made it clear that being alone and so far from your family [is] not beneficial for anyone. And my family is from North Carolina, which is on the East Coast. It was one of those things that I just had to do because of all the personal concerns I was dealing with.
Clarkson had two kids with Brandon Blackstock, whom she divorced in 2020 after nearly seven years of marriage.
Even though Clarkson acknowledged that things are still being worked out in the background on an emotional and professional level, she said that part of her motivation for making the move was to avoid working in a situation that “isn’t healthy.”
I’m getting too old to work in a place that isn’t happy and healthy, she stated. I had to do it for years in meetings and occasionally while dealing with very harsh people, so I didn’t want to do that anymore. I’m working on other things while temporarily putting all of my attention on the talk show.
The talk show’s working environment gained attention earlier this month when a Rolling Stone article alleged that the producers “overworked” and “underpaid” the crew members, who complained that “working at the show was traumatizing to their mental health.”
In response to the allegations, Clarkson released the following statement on Instagram: “In my 20 years in the entertainment industry, I’ve always led with my heart and what I felt to be right. It is unacceptable for me to learn that someone feels ignored or mistreated on The Kelly Clarkson Show since I adore the cast and crew.
I have always been committed to creating and maintaining a secure and positive environment at The Kelly Clarkson Show, and I will remain so. As we prepare to relocate to the East Coast, I am more committed than ever to ensuring that our team that is moving and our new team in New York are the best and kindest in the business.
“As part of that build, every one of the senior staff, including myself, will attend leadership training. Every organization may always use improvement, especially when it comes to leadership, and making sure that everyone is being or becoming their best selves. The former American Idol participant remarked, “To make sure that any notion of poison is eliminated.
