MY EX-HUSBAND GOT OUR HOUSE, CAR, AND ALL OUR MONEY AFTER THE DIVORCE — I LAUGHED BECAUSE THAT WAS EXACTLY WHAT I’D PLANNED.

My marriage with Mike was done way before we signed any papers. He’d been more into his flashy image than into us for ages. Big cars, big house — if it screamed “Look at me,” he wanted it. So when he finally told me he wanted a divorce, I wasn’t shocked.

What got me, though, was how quick he was to grab everything. “I want the house, the car, the savings,” he said, all smug.

He even tossed me the crumbs — my personal stuff, as if that was some generous offer.
I just smiled and nodded. I let him take it all because I knew what was coming. My lawyer looked at me like I was crazy, but I told her to let him have it.

We signed the divorce papers, and I moved out that afternoon. I was eager to start my new life, but not before making one final call. Everything was set.
The next morning, my phone rang, and it was Mike, absolutely livid.
“WHAT HAVE YOU DONE?!” he screamed.
“Oh, Mike,” I said, trying not to laugh, “What’s wrong now?”
“You know exactly what’s wrong!” he yelled. “I’m in my living room, and guess what I’m looking at!”

I leaned back in my chair, barely able to suppress my grin. “Hmm… let me guess,” I mused, tapping my chin. “An empty shell of a house? A car that won’t start? A bank account that’s suddenly not as full as you thought?”

Mike was fuming. “You set me up, didn’t you?!”

I finally let out a small chuckle. “Set you up? Oh, Mike, you did this all on your own. You just never paid attention.”

I could hear his breath hitch, his mind scrambling to piece it together. “The house… the mortgage… the loan—”

“—All in your name, sweetheart,” I interrupted smoothly. “You were so obsessed with getting everything, you never stopped to think why I didn’t fight for a single thing. The house? Fully refinanced under your name. The car? Also yours. The savings account? Well, it was joint, but guess what? I moved my money out before we even filed for divorce.”

Silence. Then, a strangled, “No… no, you can’t—”

“Oh, but I did,” I said sweetly. “Enjoy paying for that overpriced house you insisted on keeping. Oh, and the car? Well, I hope you can afford those outrageous maintenance fees on a luxury vehicle, because I sure wasn’t about to.”

“You conniving—”

I cut him off. “Now, now, Mike. You wanted to win, didn’t you? You won. You have it all! The house, the car… and, of course, all the debt that came with it.”

His frustration boiled over, and I could hear something crash in the background. “You’re going to regret this,” he seethed.

I laughed. “Oh, honey. I never regret a well-executed plan.”

Then I hung up, poured myself a glass of wine, and toasted to my freedom. Mike got exactly what he wanted—and I got exactly what I planned.
