Shannen Doherty’s condition has been updated.
The actress, 52, said on Tuesday that in addition to being diagnosed with stage 4 breast cancer in February 2020, a January 5 CT scan indicated she also has brain metastases. The Mayo Clinic claims that the disease arises when cancer cells spread from their original location to the brain.
She wrote in the caption of an Instagram video of herself receiving radiation treatment, “January 12, the first round of radiation took place. My fear is evident. In addition to having a lot going on, I also have acute claustrophobia.
She remarked, “I am privileged to have wonderful doctors like Dr. Amin Mirahdi and the incredible techs at Cedar Sinai. But this is one of the symptoms of cancer. The timing of it all, the uncertainty, and the anxiousness.
Doherty’s disclosure comes after she posted a video of herself on June 5 on Instagram getting fitted for the mask she used while receiving treatment with the comment “January 9, 2023.”
At a Charmed panel hosted by PEOPLE’s Breanne L. Heldman and starring Rose McGowan, Holly Marie Combs, Brian Krause, Dorian Gregory, and Drew Fuller at 90s Con in March, Doherty previously gave an update on her health.
When asked how she felt, Doherty replied, “I’m feeling great, thank you!” … This crowd is extraordinary.
After receiving her initial breast cancer diagnosis in 2015 and revealing that the disease has returned after going into remission in 2017, Doherty has regularly updated her followers on the progress of her treatment.
“Is everything beautiful? No, but it is real, and through sharing, I hope that we may all learn more and better comprehend what cancer looks like. In October 2021, she posted her message to Instagram. She said, “I hope I’ve inspired people to have mammograms, regular checkups, to face their fears, and to take on whatever may be in front of them.”
