Lance Reddick passed dead. He was an actor best recognized for his work on The Wire and John Wick. He was 60.
His Picture PR agent verified the news and stated that he died of natural causes. In press appearances for the next movie John Wick 4 just last week, the actor shared the screen with Keanu Reeves.
Lance and Angela Bassett both studied at the Yale School of Drama in the early 1980s. But it wasn’t until the 2000s, when he played Cedric Daniels in The Wire for a total of five seasons, that he became widely known.
Every single one of the sixty episodes of the show features Lance’s character Daniels, a police officer who advances through the ranks from lieutenant to major to the commissioner.
Following that, he went on to star in cult TV hits including Bosch and Fringe, in which he played Phillip Broyles (where he played the role of Chief Irvin Irving).
He appeared in all three of the John Wick sequels over the course of the following nine years after co-starring with Keanu Reeves in the first John Wick film in 2014 as Charon, a New York hotel concierge.
The fourth movie will be released on March 24, 2023.
Lance was also set to star as Zeus, the Greek god, in the upcoming Disney+ television series Percy Jackson and the Olympians, which is based on the same-named book series, alongside Walker Scobell and Jessica Parker Kennedy.
Lance was a devoted animal lover, and he had four dogs. His final tweets on social media honored his cherished pets.
The fact that I enjoy cooing over my pets both on and off camera shouldn’t come as a surprise. It’s easy thanks to @officialhardrock’s comprehensive selection of @johnwickmovie dog stuff, which is available at @hardrockhotels. He added the message to a photo of himself and four dogs that were posted on Instagram.
Unleashed locations, as well as a very special celebration of “National Puppy Day” to support @animalleague at @hardrockhotelnyc. If you’re curious, you may read more about it in my story.
His most recent tweet included a clip of his dogs barking, along with the caption, “And the beat continues… #dogsoftwitter,” which he said while staring into the camera.
