Since the Die Hard actor’s family made the shocking announcement of his sickness, the 44-year-old actress claimed she has been on a journey of “self-discovery.”
Emma said on National Grief Awareness Day on Tuesday that she has discovered new hobbies to keep her busy while grieving.
“This past summer was one of self-discovery for me as I tried new things, broke out of my comfort zone, and kept myself physically active,” Emma wrote in the description of a video she posted on Instagram showing her gardening, playing tennis, and exercising.
She added, “My sadness may be paralyzing, but I’m learning how to live beside it,” before imparting the advice that her stepdaughter, Scout Willis, had given her. Even though I’m getting better at managing my sadness, it still occasionally paralyzes me.

According to her stepdaughter @scoutlaruewillis, grief is the deepest and purest expression of love. I sincerely hope it has the same effect on you.
Scout was among the first to comment on Emma’s piece, saying, “This is such a stunning example! I love you so much and am so proud of you! The emoticons of a shattered heart in Emma’s followers’ remarks suggested that many of them were speechless.
Mabel, 10, and Evelyn, 8, the actor’s two children, are being raised by Emma. Following his aphasia diagnosis, his ex-wife Demi Moore, their children Rumer (34), Scout (31), and Tallulah (28), as well as Emma, all announced his intention to stop performing.
Aphasia is a neurological condition that makes it difficult to communicate verbally and in writing, read, and comprehend. Age 65 and older is the average age for those who have aphasia.

“To the wonderful people who are Bruce’s supporters, our family wanted to let you know that our dearly loved Bruce has been dealing with various health issues and was just diagnosed with aphasia, which is hurting his cognitive ability,” reads an excerpt from the statement. We deeply regret any ill will this may have caused.
“As a result of this and after giving it some thought, Bruce has chosen to call it quits on his long career. We have no words to adequately express our gratitude for all of your kindness, sympathy, and support toward our family at this trying time.
