Aimee Copeland’s life altered irrevocably when she was a graduate student at the University of Georgia at the age of 24. She made the decision to go ziplining over a lake with some buddies. Aimee’s turn, however, was interrupted when the cable broke, resulting in her falling and breaking her leg.
To make matters worse, she also developed a flesh-eating condition, which after 11 operations and challenging rehabilitation forced her to amputate both of her hands and legs.
Despite her difficult situation, Aimee gradually adapted to her new life and developed into a supporter of amputee and disability rights. She even attended the University of West Georgia to obtain a Ph.D. in psychology.
A photo of Aimee on the beach in a bikini recently went viral on social media. Aimee boldly displays her body in the photo, complete with scars and amputations. She exhorts others to embrace their defects and see the beauty in them.
The tale of Aimee is one of fortitude, bravery, and resiliency. Through her public speaking engagements and social media posts, she has motivated thousands of people. Her message is crystal clear: what matters most is what you do with what you already have, not what you have.
