The cast of Blue Bloods is remembering the late Treat Williams, a co-star who died in a motorcycle accident on Monday at the age of 71.
Williams and Tom Selleck, who plays Frank Reagan, the commissioner of the New York City police, in the classic CBS crime drama, are good friends.
In a statement to PEOPLE, Selleck, 78, stated, “It has been said that we are all just passing the time and occupy our chair very briefly. My friend Treat had a great name and was well-positioned in his chair. Although I shall miss him, I will never forget him. Happy birthday, dear friend.
Williams was hailed as an “actor’s actor” and an “absolute pleasure” to work with by Bridget Moynahan, who portrays Erin Reagan on the show.
According to Moynahan, 52, “He was a role model off-screen as well,” she said in a statement to PEOPLE. “Everyone could respect his devotion to and love for his family. We lost a good one, folks. goodbye, Treat.
Vanessa Ray, the on-screen spouse of Eddie Janko-Reagan, showed her respect for Williams by sharing a story about him on Instagram.
The first time I worked with Treat on @bluebloods_cbs, he told me over family dinner that I was in Hair on Broadway. The “Frank Mills gal” was how I presented myself. He started singing. Every word had meaning for him. My answer is no. What a kind, generous, and talented artist. Berger, go take a nap now.
Prior to his passing, Williams, who frequently played Lenny Ross on Blue Bloods, posted a number of photos from the show’s set on social media.
He uploaded a photo of Selleck and him from the CBS drama set in August 2021, and it went viral. Tom Selleck and “Blue Bloods” have made it enjoyable. Two senior professionals, he wrote as the caption.
Barry McPherson, Williams’ 15-year agent, confirmed Williams’ death to PEOPLE on Monday and described the “talented” actor as “the nicest guy.”
He was, in McPherson’s opinion, an actor’s actor. The film industry admired him. He has been the heartbeat of Hollywood ever since the late 1970s.
Williams was riding his motorcycle close to his house in Vermont on Monday when he was hit by a car on Route 30 in Dorset, Vermont, according to Fire Chief Jacob Gribble. According to Gribble, investigators believe that because the car’s driver was turning, he or she failed to notice Williams’ motorcycle before the two collided.
With “critical injuries,” the actor was rushed to a hospital in Albany, New York, but was subsequently pronounced dead. Police have since confirmed the status of the probe.
Numerous Williams’ friends and co-stars offered the actor tribute on social media after the news of his loss, including Gregory Smith, Laura Dern, Marilu Henner, Jonathan Bennett, Sarah Drew, Melissa Gilbert, Wendell Pierce, and Kim Cattrall.
